International Selling
Stamps2Go allows you to
optionally make your items available for purchase by buyers outside of your
home country. You may elect to sell internationally by checking the "I will
accept out-of-country orders' checkbox when you register. Or you may make this
election at any time by clicking "My Account" on the menu at the top of the
page, then clicking the "Edit User Information" button. You may also choose to
stop international sales any time by unchecking this option - but any sales you
have already received must be honored.
There are several factors you should take into consideration before signing
up to sell to out-of-country buyers:
-
It is your responsibility to acquaint
yourself with the shipping and customs requirements for international sales
from your country. Most countries have strict guidelines for how international
mail must be sent. You may need to attach a customs form with information about
the contents of the shipment and its declared value. Some countries may require
that international mail be taken to a post office instead of being picked
up at home.
-
Postage rates for international mail varies
widely between countries, but is always more expensive than domestic mail. As
an example, in the United States a two-ounce letter may be mailed domestically
for $0.84 (as of November 2022), but the same two-ounce letter sent
internationally by First Class Mail International would cost between $1.40 and
$2.62, depending on the destination country. To account for this
difference, Stamps2Go has
established different shipping charges for
in-country and out-of-country sales.
-
The fixed amount Stamps2Go
charges buyers for shipping (and passes on to the seller) is designed to cover
the postage cost for most orders. However, certain larger items, like full and
half sheets of stamps, stamps on cover, or souvenir sheets, may require a
larger than normal package - and more postage. If you have items listed for
sale that will require additional postage to send, you should add a little to
the selling price to accomodate for this difference. This is particularly
important if you will be selling internationally.
-
All international mail should be sent by
airmail letter post. NEVER send a Stamps2Go
order by surface mail. The delivery time for surface mail is excessive and
unpredictable, and any delay could cause the buyer to lodge a "package not
received" complaint against you.
-
The same Stamps2Go
sales fee is charged for all orders, regardless of whether they are in-country
or out-of-country. However, if the buyer is located outside of the United
States, we will add a cross-border currency fee.
This fee is necessary to offset the additional cross-border fee we pay to
PayPal to receive out-of-country currency from the buyer.
-
Since handling international shipments is generally more trouble than domestic
orders, you should consider establishing a minimum order amount for
out-of-country orders. You may set separate minimum order amounts for
in-country and out-of-country orders. Even if you do not require any minimum
order for domestic sales, you might want to establish a minimum order amount
for out-of-country sales to make the special handling worthwhile.
